Program
For the
whole week you choose a morning workshop where you work intensively in
a small group on a project
from arts, crafts,
music or theatre.
In the afternoons
you have time to try many different things from arts to games and sports,
brought from all
over Europe and
maybe by you.
In the evenings
there are events for the whole group, like performances, European evening,
creative evening,
concert, a night
game, and the big final banquet party.
Everything
is set within a theme that sets the atmosphere, decoration and costumes
for the week and is used
throughout the
programme.
There will
be the opportunity to explore the local surroundings of Rieneck on the
day out.
Of course
in between the programme there will be time for relaxing, talking and
singing with new friends from
all over Europe.
The international
team will help you to establish contacts for further international exchanges.
Workshop Descriptions
On the first evening, you will decide on a workshop to participate in
during the mornings for the rest of the week. Here are descriptions of
the workshops on offer, so that you can think about which workshop you
might like to do in advance. The workshops will, however, be presented
on the first evening, and will have time to think about it.
IFC (Identifying Flying Carpets)
The world is full of obscure objects. But the ones, which can only be
seen very rarely, are flying carpets. You better be up in the air, in
order to catch sight of them. So don't be afraid of sophisticated science,
just trust your instinct and even YOUR carpet will fly – high up
in the sky!
Go and create your own flying things. Using different materials, you will
be able to have paper planes/carpets, balloons, rockets, helicopters and
all those things, that haven't even been discovered. We will do a lot
of scientific testing, even with electronic things. There will even be
remote control planes, carpets and helicopters, yeah!
Bring your own equipment, if you like. This can be a book about paper
planes, RC (remote control) equipment (servos, models, etc.) or old carpets,
which you have always wished would fly. Anything related to flying, really.
Shadow Theatre
The Kalif shall be honoured with a delightful body shadow show! For one
week we will work on our acting with the body, on costumes, props and
masks. Welcome to this workshop is anybody who is interested in acting,
as well as those who want to manage the stage (as lightengeneers and for
building the large screen). Playing with light and shadow provokes the
fantasy, as the technology is very simple. - But the effects are grandiose.
Let´s present to the Kalif the greatest, strangest and most impressive
shadow spectacle imaginable. Please bring tight clothes and - if possible
- any material that makes a fascinating shadow.
The Last Game
Do you like to play games? Do you like to play games with a lot of people?
But do you also like to set the rules? To cross new frontiers? Then this
is the ultimate challenge for you. We will develop a brand new game, never
played before, for all the people visiting the bazaar of Al’Mashewa
at the pleasure of the Kalif to be held at the end of the bazaar. You
will be trained how to develop new ideas and concepts, test rules, design
game materials and explain complex structures to a large group of people
and finally to run the ongoing game. Like the magic lamp it will be full
of risks but also full of excitement. You will never know what it is like
until you have tried it!!!
The Heavy Metal Workshop!
It’s cool, it’s flashy, it’s metal heavy! Come and join
our workshop where we are going to deal with various kinds of metal (e.g.
copper) to design and build everyday things like cups, pots, candle holders,
plates, jewellery and whatever comes to your minds. We will start together
with a very easy project to get used to different techniques. After that
you have the possibility to work the rest of the week on your own ideas
and projects – of course we will help you all the time if it’s
necessary. Sturdy clothes will be useful.
Portraits
The bazaar of Al' Mashewa is full of mysterious people from faraway lands,
some of them harbouring deep, dark secrets within the facades of their
faces, others bearing knowledge of things we cannot imagine, and the experience
of the years is etched into the lines around their eyes and the movement
of their smiles. At the portrait workshop, we will learn how to capture
the tiny details of the human face that speak of real life and the soul
within. We will work with pencils, charcoal and pastells to draw portraits
of each other in black and white and in colour, both frontal portraits,
profiles and half-profiles. We will draw people as they really are, wrinkles,
warts and all. Join the portraits workshop and take home particularly
special pictures of the
fascinating people you will meet at the bazaar of Al' Mashewa!
Al’Mashewa daily news
Al Mashewa Tribune proudly presents: Al Mashewa daily news! Carpet accidents,
latest fashion from far east, best magic lamps in town! We will inform
you, weather you want it or not! In this workshop we will write articles
about all important events during the IMWe. Therefore we will use several
media beside the classical newspaper. If possible bring camera (digital)
and a laptop.
Welcome to the most pure and noble art of Hammock-making!
Relaxing is not for beginners, and so we will spend the week getting to
know the secrets of making the prefect instrument laidbackness - the hammock!
Actually we will make several of them! Please bring comfortable clothes,
your favourite relaxation/chillout-music and MOST IMPORTANTLY a piece
of durable cloth, length 3 meters or more! Chill out in Al Mashewa!
Fabric Workshop
Any type of clothes and any type of carpets or things that can be sewed
will be made in this workshop.
Sounds and music
Everyone can make music. The streets and bazaars of Al’Mashewa are
full of different sounds and noises. Instruments are lying around everywhere.
You just have to pick them up!
We will try to create all those different varieties of (Arabian) music
– from the contemplative songs of the muezzins to contemporary ways
of expressing concern about society, like the Algerian raï. Learn
how to improvise. Discover sounds you never thought your voice is able
to produce, without even having to know how to read notes. Try out instruments
you have never played before, or even discover new inspirations and write
your own songs and tunes.
Please bring your own musical instruments if you have any!
